2018 – The year it was for Domaining!

2018 proved to be a great year for Domaining. Many good Sales happened during the year and many new technologies and niches were discovered.

And just like that, another year has flown by!

Here are few most prominent developments from the last year:

1. Crypto.com Sold for $12 million

The domain crypto.com, whose owner Matt Blaze has held out for a long time refusing to sell it to cryptocurrency companies, finally sold it for “millions.”

One of the hottest and highly sought-after domain names in the world, Crypto.com, has been reportedly sold to Crypto Visa card company Monaco for around $12 million.

Blaze is an associate professor at the University of Pennsylvania and a well-regarded cryptography researcher who is credited with the phrase and concept of “trust management,” an important framework for modeling the authenticity and reliability of parties in information security.

A visit to Manoco old website (https://mona.co/), redirected visitors to the new Crypto.com website with the message: “Monaco is now Crypto.com.”

2. GDPR got implemented

GDPR is a European regulation that aims to strengthen protections for the use and storage of individuals’ personal data.

GDPR requires that companies manage personal data in a certain way – and this can have a significant implications for people who deal in domain names.

The biggest impact of GDPR on domain names affects those that use the registration details publicly listed on WHOIS for their Business strategies, Domain name outbound marketing, direct selling/offering of domain names to the domain owners and sending offers directly to the domain owners in case the domain name is not listed at the marketplace.

3. I attended DomainX 2018

Yes, I attended the DomainX 2018 held at Shangri-La Hotel, New Delhi on August 5th, 2018

The idea behind DomainX conference was to bring industry leading International Domain Name and Internet Marketing experts to interact with fellow domain name investors and web startup community to showcase their proven products and services.

DomainX 2018 also introduced the special new section on Web Hosting & Cloud Discussion this year.

I got to speak on the session for “Will This (Domain Name) Sell?” which was an engaging and involving session in which the Participants of the Event would ask us about a Domain Name they own and we need to give us our Opinion on the same.

I love making new friends and I respect people for a lot of different reasons. Yeah, I love doing ensemble pieces. You get to meet so many new people and make new friends. These are not just some famous quotes by great people, but they really make sense on each day we live.

I was fortunate to know more about the people working at companies with whom I have been dealing since more than 10 years each, DynaDot.com and GoDaddy.com

I thank both the teams of DynaDot.com and GoDaddy.com, for taking out the time and coming to meet me at our office in New Delhi, India.

They are excellent people to deal with, very supportive. No doubt why both these organizations, DynaDot and GoDaddy, are doing so well. This is due to such hard working and sincere people working with them.
